It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Tex Gillis on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at the age of 30.

Sonnyboy continues his journey without his beloved wife Courtney Almas; parents Bruce and Denise Gillis, sister Alexandria Gillis, brother-in-law to Larry Barnesky; nephew Noah Barnesky; Nanny Bernadette McLeod and grandmother Gloria Gillis. He is also survived by his dogs Patch and Rocky, who was his “best bud”. Tex has a large, supportive family whom he loved so much.

Tex started his adventurous life, coming into this world in a helicopter above Thunder Bay, Ontario on October 30, 1989. He lived in Thompson, Manitoba and was a proud miner at Vale.

Tex was well-known for his love of music, always finding the newest songs; he especially loved live music and attending many concerts of his favourite bands. He was a Pittsburgh Penguins fanatic and loved chirping his friends and family about rival teams. Spending time with his friends who were like family was very important to him. Tex’s friends share many memories of camping, fishing, snowmobiling and quadding together. Tex and his wife enjoyed travelling the world, from beach vacations to back packing in Europe. He had the gift of making friends and always made everyone around him feel special and loved. He was a social butterfly and made connections with so many people, all across the world.

He will be lovingly remembered for his handsome smile, infectious laugh, kind soul, loving heart and the ability to light up any room with his presence. He was larger than life. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who were lucky enough to know him.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 11 am at the Community Hall in Snow Lake, Manitoba.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association (www.cmha.ca). The family of Tex Gillis would like to thank the Thompson RCMP, Thompson EMS, Cross Lake First Nation, United Steel Workers Local 6166, the community of Snow Lake, and the Boardman Funeral Home.
